Would you Help Us become 501(c) again

Help Nordlandslaget -- Keep Nordlandslaget.com educational web site on-line
so everyone (that wants) can learn about Northern Norway

Nordlandslaget really does need your help to become 501(c)

Nordlandslaget was Non-profit 501(C)4 from 1909-2008 but we somehow forgot to send in a yearly form to IRS
asking to continue being 501(C)4 so we by accident we lost our status

Over the years members of Nordlandslaget rarely ever claimed any donations that members made to Nordlandslaget
so the "yearly government form to be sent in" was overlooked by accident
IRS rules has rules (tough love - too bad! they said)

So we lost the 501(C) status. We can get reinstated - but the filing fee is now $400

Although we are no longer a nonprofit entity we still have a mission that benefits the "greater good" of the community, society, or the world. We now have to pay taxes if we ever got out of the red - but we will never use its funds for anything other than the 501 (c) mission for which Nordlandslaget was formed in 1909.

Our goal is to become 501(c) 4 again.
There is still no reason why can't donate funds to the Nordlandslaget as a gift
so we can become a 501(c) again.

Once we become 501(c) then any donations can be a legal tax write off.

If we can meet our goal to become a 501 (c) status again funds would go to:

• Purchase additional genealogy resources for the library that members use
Need another dozen genealogy farm books

• We would like to provide Northern Norway educational materials to schools

• Provide seminar speakers about Nordland from our lag to other groups

Our Main goal will still be a
1. fraternal organization organized in the U.S.,
2. Operates under the lodge system,
3. Devotes its net earnings exclusively to religious, charitable, scientific, literary, educational, and fraternal purposes
4. No wages paid to any officers or lodge members
IRS rules Non-profit 501(c)4

To become a tax-exempt group under section 501(c)(4) of the Internal Revenue Code, an organization organized and operated exclusively for exempt purposes set forth in section 501(c)(4), and none of its earnings may inure to any private shareholder or individual. In addition, it may not be an action organization, i.e., it may not attempt to influence legislation as a substantial part of its activities and it may not participate in any campaign activity for or against political candidates.

Nordlandslag will send a receipt for all cash gifts received so that you may provide this information to your tax preparer.
Your donation will be called a gift until we become 501(c)4 again - then it can be a legal tax deduction.
